Men aren’t always that simple to shop for. Oftentimes, I think women get into habit loops with their men/dads/sons and buy them socks and white t-shirts and call it a day. I’m here to say, socks and white t’s do not make anyone’s day. I mean, how excited can someone get over socks (I’m saying this sort of tongue in cheek, since I get pretty excited over socks myself). Ladies, we can do better!
The thing is, most men don’t give hints like women do. They are often largely oblivious to a lot of the list-making shopping and wrapping that’s going on behind the scenes this month. I’m totally stereotyping here, but only because I have a lot of men in my life, and most of them are not searching for coupon codes and agonizing over whether to get the garbage men gifts this year (FYI- I’m doing it). Many men are largely unaware of the gifting initiative going on behind the scenes, so they’re not dropping hints and tagging us in instagram posts of things that catch their eye.
Without further ado- here are my top versatile gifts for the man in your life!
1.) A classic chambray. I got this for Mike, who owns a bazillion shirts, and it’s in constant rotation. He wears it casually open over a t-shirt, dressier tucked into khakis, and untucked buttoned with dark jeans. It’s a staple that many men don’t already own, and I did all the research (seriously, I checked out like 20 different ones before determining that this one was the best). Size down.
2.) A sous vide. Do you guys know about the sous vide life? It’s a simple way to guarantee a precise internal temperature to whatever you’re cooking. You can read more here about the process. This means perfectly cooked steak, eggs, and a host of other foods that you can google at your leisure. But if your guy is a steak guy- these guarantee the exact temp he likes, and all he has to do is sear it quickly on a cast iron pan (another great gift). We bring ours on every family vacation so Mike can show off a little in the kitchen. 🙂
3.) The coolest men’s sneaker out there. Elevate his weekend game with these leather and suede detailed classics. I promise you, he will love them!
4.) This briefcase that converts into a backpack is an essential for a commuter. Mike’s been gifted much more expensive leather messenger bags which were stylish and looked great but were much less comfortable and practical. He swears this is his favorite work bag he’s ever owned for a train commute.
4.5) Edit: I posted this blog and Mike immediately texted me that this bag is actually the favorite he’s ever owned, it’s just more practical for a driving commute than a train one. I’m linking it because I think it’s much prettier than his backpack version. That one is sold out, but there are similar versions here and here.
5.) For the gymgoer, the commuter, or the podcast junkie- these Apple AirPods are a gamechanger. No cord, a charging case, and seamless pairing with your devices make these a great big ticket item for the guy in your life who deserves a splurge.
