Guys, it’s MARCH. The light at the end of the ‘worst season ever’ tunnel. We made it. Barely. But we did it! The stores are stocking spring apparel, sweaters are on clearance and I’m considering eating less comfort foods possibly maybe soon in anticipation of shorts which are clearly signs that Spring is coming (ignore the snow on the ground and just run with it)!
Here are five things I’ve been loving lately:
1.) New Netflix binge (yes, there’s been one every week lately, because Mike travels a lot and because WINTER. Workin’ Moms. I burned through this too quickly and I’m now on round two now because honestly I was scrolling through Instagram and multitasking too much to laugh at all the jokes and now I want more. It tackles topics all us mamas can relate to like pregnancy, nursing/formula, marriage stuff, parenting stuff, and also does a good job at making you think about all the stigmas that are placed on us moms especially working ones who are trying to balance everything at work and at home. You’ll love some characters and hate some characters and laugh at some parts and cry at some parts and cringe at some parts. Check it out!
2.) Silk finger balls. Ok, I’m not usually one to jump on a new skincare trend (they aren’t new but they’re trending right now), especially for a gadget. The reviews on amazon were a little weird- but at this price, I figured it couldn’t hurt to give them a whirl. These are meant to gently exfoliate your skin to help to expel white and blackheads. I think the reason some of the reviews are so negative is that I think people are expecting a Biore strip type of experience where you get that immediate gratification or because they’re just using them way too aggressively. I don’t think they’re intended to immediately expel that oddly satisfying gunk like a pore strip that yanks it out of your face- I think they’re meant to be a part of your exfoliation process (I wouldn’t use more than once a week). You simply soak the finger ball in lukewarm water for 2 minutes and then place it on your fingertips (it fits snug) and then gently massage the areas of your face that are prone to trapped sebum. I found it to be really nice and gentle, and though it did make my skin red in the short-term, I did feel like it helped to slough off dead skin and sort of assist those porecloggers in making the journey outta my face. PS- they say these are reusable but I was a little skeeved by that and I tossed mine after the first use. Still at 50 cents apiece, good bang for your (half a) buck and honestly, really gentle if used correctly!
3.) This podcast with John Maxwell and Rachel Hollis (author of Girl, Wash Your Face). It focuses on growth and leadership, but if that topic doesn’t feel like it resonates with you- I’ll share a few points that they make because I don’t think this is exclusive to CEO’s. They discuss that everyone is a leader; everyone is an influencer, in their own circles. Growth has to be intentional. And if you’re not intentionally growing, you’re coasting, which means you’re really going downhill. Aging doesn’t equal growth. Simply aging is coasting. They talk about creating habits and making changes and how the effort you put in, the perseverance, is the uphill he’s talking about. I loved this one point: John says the difference between a winner and a whiner is that a whiner wants to feel good before they do something and a winner wants to do something in order to feel good. Man did that resonate with me. Powerful stuff!
4.) Lululemon Align leggings. Guys, I resisted for so long. The price is absurd. I own ALL the dupes but I’m here to report, unfortunately, they’re not as good. Some are great (I really do love my Zellas and my Calia by Carries) but these are the Holy Grail leggings. My parents got me a Lululemon gift card for Chanukah and I finally made it to the store in Danbury to try some on a few weeks ago. Mike strolled around the food court with the kids for a few minutes so that I could try on a few pairs to decide what I wanted. I seriously almost splurged on a “vanity” pair- they had gorgeous cutouts and were so unique and fun. Mike returned to the store while I was still in the dressing room (and I knew he was back because I heard all the employees gushing over my cute babes in the stroller who were very charming while they were all hopped up on Haagen Dazs). I exited that dressing room sweating in a fullblown panic about which item to go with because I was so torn and wanted them both. In the end, I went with these buttery-soft classics that have the necessary compression but let you breathe, don’t pill up, and just feel and look better than any other leggings I’ve ever owned.
5.) This cleaner. Go on any Facebook mom group and ask the moms what nontoxic cleaner they recommend, and I guarantee you this stuff comes up (and not just by a YL rep). I’m a doTERRA girl when it comes to my oils and I have no plans on straying, but this cleaner has been so highly revered that I had to try it for myself. The claims are that it will last you a year since you use such a minimal amount of the concentrate mixed with water. I purchased this pretty glass amber spray bottle to store it safely and have it be a minimalist, non-branded addition to my countertop. I love the smell of Thieves and I love using it knowing it’s nontoxic for my babies. I will say, you’ll still need a more “hardcore” cleaner for the real nastiness, but this is what I’m cleaning our table before meals with and our countertops, and I don’t have to feel worried about the boys breathing it in. Don’t worry, doTERRA, I’m still yours, but I’ve got a big enough heart to accommodate you both.
Have a great weekend friends! xo
