Well my friends, today is the day I sign off. After today, I’ll be gone ‘til September. I can’t overemphasize how touched I feel by so many of you reaching out with kindness and support. Being immersed in well wishes is such a good space to be in before taking a break. Thank you.❤️

Thought I’d leave you with some thoughts. As one does. When one is me. 😜

Despite these beautiful shots (taken by the talented @jacpfef!) that accompany this caption, I’m writing this cross-legged on my bed surrounded by mountains of laundry.

We all can benefit from recognizing that it is rare to see a fully honest representation of something on social media.

A social media presence is an autobiography. It’s how you see yourself, or maybe it’s how you’d like to be seen. It may not be a dishonest representation of how you interpret and experience things, but it’s steeped in how you anticipate your audience to receive it.

It’s not a diary.

As we scroll, let’s keep that in mind. The photo is not the whole picture. Someone curated that photo, for your consumption.

Some hopes I have for you this summer:

Let go of the routine a little, let those kids play and you play, too. Eat some ice cream. Enjoy it. Wear that swimsuit. Let your thighs touch.

Play Taylor Swift playlists whenever possible. Blast Rebecca Black’s classic hit “Friday” on Friday mornings of course, and Jack Johnson on the weekends. Open windows. Wander in and out of your home barefoot. Watch ants work. Listen to birds. Plant something. Read. If you get an opportunity to host an impromptu playdate, host it. Those moms don’t care that your house isn’t perfect.

I challenge you to make it a practice to give strangers a genuine smile, not the tight turning up of the lips we tend to offer others. Look in the mirror and practice the smile that you reserve for when you’re in public and see if it’s inviting. If it’s not, adjust it! This matters.

While you’re practicing your “stranger smile” ask yourself if you’ve been treating that person in the mirror with compassion. If not, do better.

Support. Local.

Lastly, you have my permission to throw away all the mismatched socks.

Today I had the luxury of quietly sobbing while I

Today I had the luxury of quietly sobbing while I packed school lunches. Of squeezing too tightly at dropoff. Of mourning what feels like is happening way too close to home- but today, not in my actual home.

I feel grateful for usually having the capacity to look at my own glass and see how full it is. Today when I look at that very full glass, all I can think is how easily it could shatter.

Today my own babies are amongst the living. Yet no American mother is unscathed. Those of us whose babies’ have dodged the spray of bullets are feeling hopeless, heartbroken and scared. We don’t feel safe.

Oh- and we’re angry. And hey, maybe our collective anger will brew and boil up to be the force that’s needed to propel real political change. But also, maybe not. Maybe white men with money are the only thing that can do that. We don’t know.

Protecting our children should be the ONLY agenda. Make anything else make sense. 💔
